Tthis is a term coined by Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Per-Ingvar_Br%C3%A5nemark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Per-Ingvar Br\u00e5nemark<\/a> after his revolutionary discovery in the 1950s that the bone can integrate titanium elements. Professor Br\u00e5nemark named his discovery from the Latin word <i>os<\/i> \u2014meaning bone\u2014 and word <i>integrate<\/i>, which means <i>unify<\/i> and can also be interpreted as \u201cinteractive coexistence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A screw-shaped titanium implant (\u201cfixture\u201d) is carefully placed into the bone and &#8211; quite impressively &#8211; the genetic code that usually causes the bone to reject foreign material is not activated.
